The Seed of WJW Music Camp
Marla McBride April 23, 2012
Masa Goetz had been an active member of the Women of Ancient Wisdom Group before I joined. In the spring of 2001, I’d invited a mutual friend, Mary to attend my dear friend, Singer/Songwriter Deborah Liv Johnson’s concert. Masa was there, and as we talked over coffee that evening, she asked, “What was that music camp Deborah mentioned?”
“I don’t know.”
“Well, would you ask her about it?”
“I could. However, her contact information is on the CD’s you just purchased. You might ask her yourself.”
Masa did, and was so excited returning from Judy Fjell’s WoMaMu camp. She was now a Woman Making Music, singing verses to her new song, Vintage Body 40 Something Mind. She wanted to bring Judy and that Music Camp experience to San Diego. “Would you help me do that ?”
“Sure.” I said, thinking that she’d get over it. HA! I’d not yet seen this woman’s true character and determination.
She quickly found Camp deBenneville Pines, visited, and reserved it. More women stepped up to help. Wild Jammin Women was born. Jan offered her home for a fundraiser. Judy came from Montana to give a concert and to lead a workshop. Peggy Watson filled in for Deborah, who was in a health crisis.
DLJ sent out a seed. Masa planted it in fertile ground and gave it the water and nourishment it needed. I and many people are so very grateful for the MUSIC and LOVE they brought to life.
